The probe holder is an essential part in the whole measurement chain.

For moderate signals in a reasonably noise-free environment a probe holder with a coaxial cable can be used. With smaller signals it is highly recommended to use a triaxial cable to avoid internal system leakages. In general all the common probe holders will accept low-cost and versatile standard probe needles. However, for highest performance the needle itself needs to be coaxial and the probe holder has to be able to accept these special needles. If you need to make measurements of very small currents, voltages or capacitances, or measure over a very wide range, these type of probes are indispensable.
