RF amplifiers
An RF amplifier amplifies radio frequency signals, compensates for losses and provides the required power for measurements or transmissions. Depending on the application, low-noise, broadband or high-power amplifiers are used.
How do you choose the right RF amplifier?
When procuring an RF amplifier, in addition to purely functional criteria, there are also additional criteria that may not be immediately obvious.
-
Noise characteristics (noise floor as well as additive phase and amplitude noise)
-
Required frequency bandwidth
-
Required linearity for modulated signals
-
Required RF power
What types of RF amplifier modules are available?
In addition to standard RF amplifier modules, which offer only the desired functionality but must be supplemented with sensors and a power supply, for example, to form a fully functional instrument, RF amplifier systems with an extended range of functions are also an option. In addition to fast-acting overload and over-temperature protection, these also offer remote control via digital interfaces. This allows the input and output signals to be controlled and monitored.
A distinction is also made between so-called "solid-state" or "semiconductor and valve amplifiers". Travelling wave tubes (also known as TWTs) can achieve very high RF power output whilst maintaining high bandwidth and high operating frequencies. By combining several modules, the output power can be increased even further.
Thanks to our various suppliers, we cover a wide range of requirements. Furthermore, most suppliers offer bespoke designs for applications that cannot be solved using standard amplifier types. We look forward to advising you.
