RF modulators for realistic test signals

HF-Modulator

RF modulators transmit a baseband, measurement or data signal onto a high-frequency carrier. In doing so, they specifically modify the carrier’s amplitude (AM), frequency (FM) or phase (PM).
Modern I/Q and vector modulators also enable the generation of complex digital modulation schemes.

In RF measurement technology, modulators are used to generate defined communication, radar and test signals. This allows receivers, amplifiers, transmitters and other RF components to be tested under reproducible and realistic conditions.

What are modulators used for in radio frequency technology?

Typical applications include:

  • AM, FM and phase modulation

  • I/Q and quadrature modulation

  • Generation of QPSK, QAM and FSK signals

  • Pulse and radar signal modulation

  • Receiver and communication tests

  • Linearity, EVM and distortion measurements

When selecting a suitable modulator, the frequency range, modulation bandwidth, linearity, output power, carrier suppression and sideband suppression are particularly crucial. We look forward to advising you.
