Wavguide terminations

Waveguide terminators provide low-reflection termination for open waveguide ports and absorb high-frequency signal energy. They prevent unwanted reflections, standing waves and the resulting measurement errors.

In RF measurement technology, they are used as defined loads and reference standards, for example in VNA calibrations, power measurements and test set-ups in the millimetre-wave range. Key factors include the frequency band, the standard waveguide cross-section, power handling capacity and high return loss.

Coaxial terminations

Coaxial terminations are precisely defined, low-reflection ends of a transmission system and serve primarily to ensure controlled energy absorption at the characteristic impedance. It is crucial that a termination is not merely understood as a ‘resistor’, but as a frequency-dependent, electromagnetically active component with parasitic elements, transition geometry and thermal limitations.
